The ATLAS '''High-Granularity Timing Detector''' ('''HGTD''') is a planned [[Phase 2 upgrade (ATLAS)|Phase 2 upgrade]] to the [[ATLAS detector]] that will provide very precise timing information about the arrival of particles in the [[forward]] region. Its coverage in [[pseudorapidity]] is <math>2.4 < |\eta| < 4.0</math>. The timing information it provides, with a resolution of around 30 picoseconds, helps suppress [[pileup]] effects at the high instantaneous [[luminosity]] of the [[HL-LHC]].
