Tracking means reconstructing the trajectories of charged particles using track detector information. It can often be subdivided into two tasks: track finding, where reconstructed tracks are formed according to some algorithm, and track fitting, where the parameters uniquely describing the track are fitted to their best values for each of the found tracks.
