The ATLAS High-Granularity Timing Detector (HGTD) is a planned Phase 2 upgrade to the ATLAS detector that will provide very precise timing information about the arrival of particles in the forward region. Its coverage in pseudorapidity is . The timing information it provides, with a resolution of around 30 picoseconds, helps suppress pileup effects at the high instantaneous luminosity of the HL-LHC.
The HGTD can help keep isolation efficiencies for electrons high at high pileup.[1]
