An object (or physics object) is an entity that can be reconstructed and identified in a detector and that corresponds to one or more real physical particles. Examples of objects are reconstructed electrons, jets, missing transverse energy, and tracks.

Physics objects are characterised by a four-momentum and possibly some other qualities, such as an electric charge or variables describing the confidence of the reconstruction. Analysis is often done in terms of physics objects.
