Unidentified Falling Objects (UFOs) are believed to be dust particles of size 1-100μm which fall into the path of the LHC beam, potentially causing beam losses. Beam loss monitors (BLMs) can trigger a beam dump upon detection of such losses to protect the magnets from quenches or damage from beam loss[1]
